  6. Exceptional Circumstances

    During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission has temporarily modified our Regulatory Program, including the suspension of site audits to determine whether to accredit, not to re-accredit or vary the periods of accreditation for a service. In order to give effect to continuity of accreditation the Department of Health has, under Section 42.5 of the Aged Care Act 1997, made a decision to grant ‘exceptional circumstances’ to this service 16 January 2023. The service remains subject to compliance monitoring by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.

  9. Serious risk decision

    On 13 November 2017 a delegate of the CEO of the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency made a decision that The Sisters of Our Lady of China Health Care Pty Ltd failed to meet one of more expected outcomes in the Accreditation Standards in relation to Alkira Gardens and that this failure has placed, or may place, the safety, health or wellbeing of a care recipient of the service at serious risk. The Department of Health has been notified of the risk. The Quality Agency will continue to monitor the performance of the service including through unannounced visits.

    Following a review audit conducted on 16 October 2017 to 23 October 2017, a delegate of the CEO of the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency made a decision on 16 January 2018 to vary the period of accreditation of this service. The period of accreditation of the service will expire on 16 July 2018. The approved provider of the service meets 18 of the 44 expected outcomes of the Accreditation Standards. The Review Audit Report is attached.
