In order to give effect to continuity of accreditation the Department of Health has, under Section 42.5 of the Aged Care Act 1997, made a decision to grant ‘exceptional circumstances’ to this service until 14 June 2021.

  17. Serious risk decision

    Following a review audit conducted on 4 April 2019 to 5 April 2019, a delegate of the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner made a decision that Bupa Aged Care Australia Pty Ltd failed to meet 24 expected outcomes in the Accreditation Standards in relation to Bupa Traralgon. On 14 May 2019 a decision was made that failure to meet six of these expected outcomes has placed the safety, health or wellbeing of consumers of the service at serious risk. The Department of Health has been notified of the risk. Serious risk is not an ongoing state; it is a statutory decision based on evidence at a point in time. The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission will continue to monitor the performance of the service including through unannounced visits.

    On 9 August 2018 a delegate of the CEO of the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency made a decision that failure by Bupa Aged Care Australia Pty Ltd to meet eight expected outcomes in the Accreditation Standards in relation to Bupa Traralgon has placed the safety, health or wellbeing of care recipients of the service at serious risk. A site audit was conducted by the Quality Agency on 11 December 2018 to 12 December 2018 at Bupa Traralgon to assess the performance of the service against the Accreditation Standards. The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission found the service complies with all Accreditation Standards. Serious risk is not an ongoing state; it is a statutory decision based on evidence at a point in time.
